Strands of Pearls

Mentoring creates a positive impact in the lives of children. Regardless of the income level, studies have shown that with supportive mentors, children develop intellectually, interpersonally, and emotionally.

Mentored youth have increased self-confidence and self-esteem. They become better planners, organizers, and problem-solvers. Their behavior, attitudes, and relationships improve. And the skills they learn in mentoring helps to close social and economic opportunity gaps.

Strands of Pearls mentoring group is devoted to the personal growth and empowerment of girls (3rd – 5th grades). We create a motivational space where girls can try new things, develop a range of inspiring skills, take on leadership roles, gain a strong sense of self, form and maintain healthy relationships, and learn how to identify and solve problems within their communities.

Studies show that with regular meetings between children and mentors, the mentored children are 46% less likely to use drugs and 27% less likely to drink than non-mentored children. Thus, our mentors facilitate monthly interactive workshops and activities with our young mentees.

Applications are accepted annually at the start of every new school year. To apply for the mentoring programs, please click the button above and complete the application.
